For tank trucks that have been idle for a long time, it’s important to regularly check the condition of their components. Below are some key maintenance tips for tank truck components: 1. Inspect the tank truck’s battery—If the battery has been in use for more than four years, it will function properly only under warm weather conditions. 2. Check the tank truck’s antifreeze fluid. Monitor the antifreeze level weekly. If the level consistently drops without any visible external leaks, it could indicate an internal leak in the tanker’s engine. Such a leak must be repaired promptly to prevent serious engine damage. 3. Allow the engine to idle before starting the tanker in cold weather. Let the engine idle for a few seconds before driving to ensure proper circulation of engine oil and lubricants. 4. Check the air pressure in the tank truck’s tires. Verify the tire pressure and inflate them to the manufacturer’s recommended levels. Low tire pressure accelerates tire wear and increases fuel consumption. If the tanker’s tires consistently lose air, it could be due to a puncture or a damaged inflation valve.

7. Inspect the hoses. Engine overheating may be caused by blocked hoses or overly tight hose clamps. Be sure to check the hoses every time you change the engine oil.

8. Inspect the oil tanker’s windshield wipers. Check whether the oil tanker’s windshield wipers have cracks or tears, and replace them annually.

9. Clean the air filter on the oil tanker. Inspect the air filter system every two engine oil changes to prevent leaks or damage.

10. Inspect the tanker’s components—specifically the belt. Also check the lubricating oil, as a damaged belt can lead to reduced engine performance or failure in the oil tanker.

11. Recalibrate the suspension. If the suspension is not properly calibrated, the new tires will wear out after driving just a few thousand miles.

12. Check the tank truck’s lights. Make sure the lights are clean and functioning properly. Keep several spare bulbs and fuses in the dashboard’s glove compartment.

13. Maintain the power steering system of the tanker truck. Check the working fluid once a month. If the level is too low, inspect the hoses for leaks.

14. Repair the brakes promptly when they need it. Delaying repairs is extremely dangerous and could lead to even greater damage than if the entire braking system were inspected and maintained.

15. Repair a flat tire. Be sure to carry the necessary tools for tire repair. When your tire leaks, you can temporarily seal it so that you can make your way to a nearby repair shop.

16. Inspect the tank truck’s shock absorbers. Lift the tank truck up and down, then drive it to check the shock absorbers. If the tank truck doesn’t stop bouncing, it indicates that the shock absorbers are worn or leaking.

17. Inspect the spark plugs in the fuel tanker. Worn-out spark plugs can waste fuel and increase exhaust emissions, so inspect them and replace them if necessary.
